Plot:
Magical Shopping Arcade Abenobashi follows the adventurers of Arumi Asahina and Sasshi Imamiya through the many worlds of the Shopping Arcade. Sasshi, returning home from summer camp to find that his old home has been destroyed along with his toy collection and baseball cards, all of which defined his entire geekdom. Worst of all his childhood friend, Arumi, is moving away. Arumi tells Sasshi “Bein’ human, havin’ your health… that’s the most important thing.”, but try telling that to a twelve-year-old boy who’s whole reality is falling apart.Reality doesn’t just fall apart, it leaves completely as Arumi and Sasshi discover that their local shopping center actually is a portal to a series of parallel existences. It could be the dragons, or maybe the dinosaurs, space police/pirates, kung-fu pandas, talking moles, kookie sorcerers, or maybe it is just the fact that Sasshi keeps getting smothered by a big-breasted beauty, but something definitely isn’t right. Kansas this ain’t, neither is it Oz, or France for that matter. Now Arumi and Sasshi have to find their way home… err their right home.
Review:
Fun, just plain fun. Abenobashi is in the same parody-an-episode genre as practically invented by Excel Saga. Abenobashi parodies are mainly from Japanese culture with some American stuff in there also (“You mean this is the real thing, USED BY CHRISTINA!"). Not only that but Gainax does some great self-parodies too (barring whether you’ve seen any other Gainax shows).
